West Sikkim

Sikkim always amazed us with its beauty. Being recognized as one of the cleanest city, it not only offers you the heart melting view but most scenic places like west Sikkim which lies in the lap of nature and Himalayas. West Sikkim is the second largest district of the Indian state of Sikkim  with a headquarter located at Gyalshing, also known as Geyzing. The town is connected to the capital Gangtok by a metalled road. 

The town has a large Nepali population, and the Nepali language is the predominant language of the region. The breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga along with scared lakes, deep forest of pine along with so many known and unknown floras and faunas make it one of the best tourist regions in the Sikkim.

With an area of 1,166sqkm (450sqm) West Sikkim lays between 27°-27°55" North latitudes and 88°-88°36" East Longitudes. West Sikkim faces Summer around 5 to 20° C and winter around -3 to 12° C with an Altitude of 5,840 ft.

West Sikkim is also surrounded by places of attraction like Khecheopalri Lake, where, according to legend, not a leaf is allowed to fall on the surface of the lake and the Dubdi Monastery, the first monastery of the state. Since most of the district is hilly it enjoys a temperate climate.

Khecheoplari lake originally known as KHA-CHOT-PALRI which means the heaven of lord PADMASHAMBHAVA is located as khecheoplari village about 147kilometer west of Gangtok and 34km to the northwest of Pelling town. It is also believed to be a wish fulfilling lake in Sikkim.

Rabdentse
The second capital city of the former Kingdom of Sikkim Rabdentse was destroyed by the invading Gurkha army and only the ruins of the palace and the chortens are seen here now. From the vantage point of this former capital, superb views of the Khanchendzonga ranges can be witnessed. It is a part of Buddhist religious pilgrimage circuit starting with the first monastery at Yuksom known as the  Dubdi Monastery.
