Location of North Sikkim

The northern most region of the state of Sikkim comprises the Northern district. With an altitude ranging between 3000 ft. to 5000 ft. on average, North Sikkim is full of steep slope valleys and mountainous terrains. The steepness of the slopes is also a major reason why this region sees landslides in high numbers, especially during monsoon season and also by the effect of melting snow from glaciers. Sometimes also compared to the Swiss Alps, North Sikkim gives picturesque scenery and is a treat to the eye. The district headquarters, Mangan lies at a distance of 70 km from Gangtok and 45 km from Singtam. The place is accessible by roadways through these two routes.
