Climate and Weather North Sikkim

The geography of North Sikkim is mountainous with dense vegetation that with altitude gives way out to the alpine vegetation and then further thinning out into desert scrub towards the Northern Tundra. Its eastern boundary sharing with Nepal has the world’s third highest mountain peak, Mt. Kanchenjunga, and its ally peaks surrounding it.
The northernmost part of the district merges with the Tibetan plateau which lends a unique character to it. The prominent effect of the steep slopes is the landslide which causes major destruction with their downflow. Temperatures in the higher elevations range between 25° to below -40° celsius in the extreme high where there’s an altitude excessing 6000 meters.
